Good music for a summer evening
I wouldn't say this show was the best I've ever been to, but it certainly wasn't terrible. What's intriguing about Malaa is that they don't have traditional "openers" like other bands. They perform alongside the artists they're touring with, resulting in a stage crowded with 10, 11, 12 people at once, taking turns with mini-sets. This approach creates an atmosphere of organized (or perhaps disorganized) chaos, making the show feel short to me. The best kind of music, in my opinion, to enjoy on a summer evening is the one to sit out in the grass, on my lawn chair. I felt that Augustana, the opening act whom I prefer, didn't have much opportunity to showcase their music. However, if you are a fan of Malaa, this would be a good night out.
